I'm in San Antonio with a gathering of the Willow Creek Association Group Life Advisory Team (long name) for a dialogue on community, connecting, and belonging in the church. What we're identifying is that the questions remain the same but the context is always changing. As I participate in this discussion I'm struck by how re will let idealism roll over theology. We've formed a sort of "idealology" and accidently merged the two. But theology doesn't/shouldn't change. But methodology (read idealism) should fluctuate as the context changes. Right now we're discussing how technology is impacting community. Does it help or hurt? I can't help but wonder if church leaders had the same conversations five-hundred years ago in reaction to the Gutenberg Press.
